here is a slightly different perspective for the upcoming Turkey Day festivities here in the USA. of course it is accompanied by popular music from the country of......yup, you guessed it; Turkey!
happy sunday, everyone!
The Eagle, Ben Franklin, and the Turkey
Franklin’s Letter to His Daughter (excerpt)
“For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead Tree near the River, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the Labour of the Fishing Hawk; and when that diligent Bird has at length taken a Fish, and is bearing it to his Nest for the Support of his Mate and young Ones, the Bald Eagle pursues him and takes it from him.
“With all this Injustice, he is never in good Case but like those among Men who live by Sharping & Robbing he is generally poor and often very lousy. Besides he is a rank Coward: The little King Bird not bigger than a Sparrow attacks him boldly and drives him out of the District. He is therefore by no means a proper Emblem for the brave and honest Cincinnati of America who have driven all the King birds from our Country . . .
“I am on this account not displeased that the Figure is not known as a Bald Eagle, but looks more like a Turkey. For the Truth the Turkey is in Comparison a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America . . . He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage, and would not hesitate to attack a Grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his Farm Yard with a red Coat on.”
Ben had a lot of room to talk - He is a Bird of bad moral Character. - from what i have read,,lol but had the tables been turned we wouldnt have a turkey day or be eating turkey dinner on that day. bad idea Ben.

LOL, i have heard that he was quite a randy fellow. ; D
Ben Franklin was something else! I read a book about him with much coming from archived stuff. No wonder our history was so boring.......it was all cleaned up for the kids to learn just the basics. All of those guys were such rogues. Even Washington started out as a terrible solider and thru time just happed to end up in the right places at the right times. Its amazing and its stuff we were never taught in school.
When I read about his version of the eagle here......well its starting to sound like modern day American govt. so perhaps it was foretelling of our future.
Personally, I don't care much for turkey, but the gangster turkey picture almost changed my mind! LOL We're going out for T-Day dinner because we're off to TX the next day, don't need the leftovers. Thanks for the post! XO
the wild turkey is a noble creature and very intelligent just ask anyone who has hunted one
and ben was great i have read a lot about him and his autobiography so intelligent and able to see all sides and the future the lightning rod is responsible for modern high rise cities i could go on

I love that I have access to videos now..ie can hear them. I love the artwork, but my favorite piece of the art had a bit more to do with WHO was performing than what..LOL Hey, I can give Ben Franklin a run for his money..(wink)
This reminded me of a video I seen a few days ago-kid was being chased by a turkey around the car-his dad sits in the car laughing at the kid-while someone else is video taping it laughing & the poor kid is screaming-finally he manages to get in the car-yeah that wouldn't be a very fun thanksgiving day lol
